Lesson Expectations
Students are expected to come prepared to lessons by bringing a notebook as well as learning materials assigned. Lessons run on time – if you are late then your lesson will still end as scheduled as there will be another student after you!
Other Fees
Students may be asked to purchase supplemental materials such as method books throughout the year. For voice students, if they wish to participate in the recitals then I generally hire an accompanist to play for them. The fee for this varies between accompanists but is generally around $30. This includes a rehearsal as well as the performance.
Missed Lesson Policy
If students are to miss their regularly scheduled lesson time, another time will likely not be offered unless another student cancels. With the nature of one-on-one lessons, your time slot is booked individually for you and cannot be filled by another student. I cannot resell that time or necessarily create extra teaching time, so it is encouraged to pick a lesson time that you feel confident you can commit to. There are no refunds for missed lessons.
COVID
As we return to in-person lessons, extra steps will be taken to ensure cleanliness of the studio space. Students will be asked to wash their hands or use hand sanitizer upon arrival. If your child is ill, please do not send them to their lesson! We will set up an online lesson instead, or if you choose to miss the lesson then we can make it up on one of the days listed above.
Practice Expectations
Practicing is a necessary part of music lessons, and all students have the potential to be successful if they are committed to home practice. Piano students must have a piano at home to practice on. While an acoustic is best, a digital keyboard is acceptable as long as it is a full sized 88-keys as well as touch sensitive. Voice students will receive recordings of warm-ups as well as their pieces via email. It is suggested that students practice the following: Ages 6-8: 15-20 minutes per day Ages 9-12: 30 minutes per day Ages 13+: 45 minutes per day Consistency is the key to practicing. With this in mind, it is encouraged that students practice a minimum of 5 days per week. If you have are having issues with this, please let me know and I would be happy to give you some tools for successful practice!
Withdrawal
If families wish to withdraw for any reason, 4 weeks written notice must be provided. As the journey of music lessons has many ups and downs, please do not be afraid to speak to me directly about any issues!
